The veteran Bruins team slipped a bit last year, but as a Wild Card, they took Metropolitan Division winner Carolina to a seventh game before departing the playoffs. In response, the team opted for a coaching change, hiring former Dallas head coach Jim Montgomery. Forward Brad Marchand and defensemen Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk will all start the season recovering from injuries, so that will give a chance for some youngsters to get playing time with veterans Patrice Bergeron, Jake DeBrusk, and David Krejci, who is back in the league after playing in the Czech Republic last year.
