It’s Don Granato’s ship to captain now. The franchise removed the interim portion of his interim head coach tag over the summer and he’ll get more than 28 games to stamp his imprint on this team. He’ll do so without one of the most talented players the city has seen as the rocky relationship between Buffalo and Jack Eichel has come to an end. However, several skilled skaters return including former top overall draft pick, defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. Jeff Skinner is just three years removed from a 40-goal season and when healthy, Kyle Okposo can be an offensive force. Young wingers Rasmus Asplund, Tage Thompson, and Victor Olofsson could all benefit from more minutes, and the goaltending duties will be split between Craig Anderson and Dustin Tokarski. New head coach Ralph Krueger was the big acquisition for Buffalo this offseason, as the Sabres hope he can be the glue that gets talented players Jack Eichel, Jeff Skinner, Sam Reinhart, and Marcus Johansson to reach the playoffs and succeed once there. Buffalo went all-in on Skinner, singing him to an 8-year deal over the summer. Meanwhile, new goalie coach Mike Bales will try to get all of the potential out of Carter Hutton and Linus Ullmark.
Despite signing Skinner to the long-term deal, general manager Jason Botterill has plenty of flexibility, as only nine players go into this season under contract for the 2020-21 campaign.
Break out of the cold Buffalo winter and heat things up with a premium experience at the KeyBank Center this season. Executive suites can hold 12 or 18 people and come with your choice of two all-inclusive food and beverage packages that are available from one hour before the game until the start of the third period. Two parking passes are also included. For a larger group, try the Party Suite, which can hold anywhere from 36-46 fans. Here you can choose from available meal packages, have access to a personal attendant, private restrooms, and four parking passes.
The Buffalo Sabres will be a young and exciting team to watch in 2017. Led by centers Ryan O'Reilly and Jack Eichel, the Sabres aim to return to the playoffs this season. Last season, Eichel notched 57 points in an injury-plagued season playing in only 61 regular season games. Jack Eichel is a generational talent and the foundation of the Buffalo Sabres franchise. In the offseason, the Sabres revamped their front office and coaching staff firing both general manger and head coach. Buffalo hired former Sabres legend, Phil Housley, as head coach. The team will look to adopt his up-tempo, energetic style of play. In the offseason, the Sabres traded for defensemen Marco Scandella and Nathan Beaulieu. Buffalo desperately needed help on the blueline and Scandella should be immediately inserted as a top 4 defenseman. Finnish defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen will pair with Jake McCabe to form Buffalo's top defensive pair. Also acquired in the Scandella trade was veteran Jason Pominville. Pominville returns to Buffalo after 5 years in Minnesota. Right wing Evander Kane finished last season with 28 goals and he will be counted on heavily again this season.
