In just three years, head coach Rod Brind’Amour transformed a franchise with a decade-long postseason drought into regular Stanley Cup contenders. In terms of top-level talent it all starts with Sebastian Aho, who looked on pace to become a 40-goal scorer before the pandemic. His top line teammates both return in winger Teuvo Teravainen and former No. 2 overall draft pick Andrei Svechnikov, who inked an extension in the offseason. Fan-favorite Jordan Martinook also re-signed and Jesperi Kotkaniemi comes over from Montreal after signing an offer sheet. The Canes replace defensive scoring standout Dougie Hamilton with Ethan Bear and Tony DeAngelo to bolster a blue line group led by all-star Jaccob Slavin. All three of last year’s goalies may be gone, but Frederik Andersen and Antii Raanta should be more than just suitable replacements in net. What better spot to watch a “Storm... MORE

Past Spotlights
The Carolina Hurricanes aim to return to the playoffs in 2019-'20 after an improbable deep playoff run last season. The 2018-'19 Hurricanes shocked the hockey world by beating the Washington Capitals in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and then subsequently sweeping the New York Islanders in Round 2. The 'Canes eventually lost to the Stanley Cup Finalist Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Finals. Last season, the 'Canes energized the entire league with their team chemistry and impressive post-game on-ice celebrations. After being infamously chastised by old-school hockey personality Don Cherry as "a bunch of jerks", the 'Canes embraced their identity and it seemed to galvanize their team and fanbase even more. The Hurricanes return a talented roster this season led by young superstars Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen. Winger Andrei Svechnikov returns for his sophomore season. Svechnikov is a former #2 overall draft pick, so don't be surprised if he breaks out in season number two. On defense, Justin Falk and Dougie Hamilton form a solid first pairing. In 2019-'20, the league will be ready for the high-powered Hurricanes, so it won't be an easy task to repeat as Eastern Conference Finalists. However, the Hurricanes have a talented young roster and if their goaltending is adequate, they undoubtedly have the pieces to make another playoff run. The hockey market in Raleigh is rabid - it's certainly worth a trip to PNC Arena whenever you are in town!
The Carolina Hurricanes having been hovering close to the playoffs the past few seasons, and this year could be the one they finally break through. Take it from veteran right wing Justin Williams, who won a Stanley Cup with the 'Canes in 2006 and was signed to a 2-yr, $9M contract: "I really like this team and like where it's going." Last season, it was left winger Jeff Skinner leading the way with 63 points. The exciting rookie Finnish winger Sebastian Aho made a splash last season, scoring 24 goals and becoming the youngest player in 'Canes franchise history to record a hat trick. Aho is a fantastic skater with incredible shiftiness and ability to create plays; PNC Arena sky boxes are the perfect way to watch this budding star. Centers Victor Rask and Jordan Staal will also return and look to continue to improve this team
In 2017, the Hurricanes will host many opponents, including the St. Louis Blues, Anaheim Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Los Angeles Kings.
